Charlie X. Cai holds the position of Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance Department, Leeds University Business School (LUBS), the University of Leeds. He is also the deputy director of the International Institute of Banking and Financial Services (IIBFS). He obtained a finance PhD degree and Masters degree from Leeds University Business School, and a first class degree in Economics from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in China.

Charlie's research interests are in the areas of financial economics, asset pricing and corporate governance, with a primary focus on the microstructure of financial markets. To date Charlie has published seven papers in refereed journals and an article as part of a book. These papers are all in journals that would be rated international or national standard for RAE purposes. An additional six papers have been submitted/resubmitted to journals and seven papers are in their first or second drafts. Charlie has successfully won an amount of £2500 LUBS seedcorn fund for research collaboration with Economics department of Rice University. He was also successful in helping secure a research fund of £4980 on the topic of Chinese Finance Services from the British Academy in 2003.

Charlie has taught both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in accounting and finance topics. Drawing on his research experience and knowledge in financial markets, he has designed and developed a module in Securities Markets Microstructure for the MSc in Banking and Finance and the MSc in International Finance. As a researcher in finance, Charlie has built up substantial skills and knowledge in the specific areas of Financial Economics, Econometrics, and Computer Modelling. He is an advanced user of the SAS system. He has also mastered advance programming in Visual-Basic and large database management in SQL Server. He is skilful in pulling data from major financial databases such as Datastream, Perfect Analysis, FAME, ICC Juniper, etc.

Charlie has worked outside the Business School as a research assistant and he is committed to ourcing research links with other disciplines and academic institutions world wide.
